Indianapolis, IN, Jan. 3 -2018 promises to be a year of continued improvement at Systec Conveyors. With a focus on transformation, growth and overall improvement, Systec is making great strides to become our customers’ partner of choice for their corrugated converting needs.
The company went through some major changes in executive leadership that proved to be positive for customers and employees. In December 2016, industry veteran, Paul Gilliam, joined Systec as Vice President of Sales. This brought a familiar, trusted face to Systec. In August 2017, Matt Cahill, stepped into the role of President. With him came a shift in the direction of the company and its culture.
Systec conducted in-depth customer satisfaction surveys and industry research, allowing them to identify strengths and opportunities for improvement. With an overwhelmingly positive response from customers, it was concluded that Systec products are well-made, long lasting, reliable and rank among the best in the industry. Although parts and equipment are top-notch, other areas such as customer service and installation ranked lower. This became a starting point for improvement.
Leadership evaluated results of the surveys and research, putting new processes and people in place to address any shortfalls. First on the agenda: making things right with customers. Matt went in with a concentrated effort on transparent communication and quality work, which included operating with a sense of urgency to address and resolve all customer issues.
It wasn’t long before changes were noticed. A dedicated team was formed to track and tackle outstanding customer issues. New faces began appearing as well. A project manager joined the company to ensure that projects run smoothly from start to finish. In October 2017, Shaun Morrison was brought on as Regional Sales Manager for the Northeast territory. “Shaun will be a great asset to our customers as he brings years of experience in the material handling industry and is very familiar with Systec products.” says Paul Gilliam.
Not only were changes made to directly improve customer service, Systec also made visible improvements to the manufacturing floor. With the adoption of lean manufacturing, the plant is operating with greater efficiency and increasing output. One example of this is the roller station. An employee increased his production by 300% after completing lean training. “The amount of floor space that has been freed up by implementing lean initiatives is incredible. It looks like a new shop,” said Derek Hart, Shop Manager.
Continued improvements are slated for 2018 including: an expanded list of stocked parts allowing 24-hour shipping of the “MVPs - Most Valuable Parts’, a dedicated 24-hour technical assistance team, offering of periodic maintenance programs and a staunch effort for on-time delivery and installations. As a leader of innovation, it is no surprise that Systec is always working on development of new product to address the outstanding needs for the corrugated converting industry and will continue this effort with new products planned for 2018.
“We are working diligently to show the industry that we are a ‘New Systec.’ The changes being made here will allow us to better serve our customers which is what it’s all about.” Says Cahill.
